Nan! We Know It All!

By Mama’s Minute - 5:58 PM

Wow, where do I begin? My Nannie is one of the most amazing people I am privileged to know. I have always seen her serve her church, be devoted to my Papa, and give of her time to others. She definitely loves life. I don't think I have ever heard her complain. We go way back!

Today she visited my classroom. How special is that? This is not the first time she's been to my school. I can recall a couple more times that she's been there to visit and share. She came today for Read Across America day in celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

I picked a book that I bought at Kohl's as one of their $5 books for Kohl's Cares for Kids promotion. It is "Thidwick, the Big Hearted Moose" by Dr. Seuss. If you haven't read it check out the book here.

Now, for the best part...Nannie asked all of my students if they wanted to hear a story about me...their teacher. Of course they did!

Here's the story:

I was at their home in Florida when my baby sister was born and saw a chameleon with a pink throat. "Nannie, you know what?"
"What," she asks.
"That chameleon is a girl because it has a pink bubble and the boy has a blue one," I answer.

Then, later that day I heard birds singing. I told her that they were baby birds in a tree. How in the world did I know so much at 4 years old?

Finally I started to get sleepy as 4 year olds do...

Yes, that is my annoying laugh as I was choking back tears in the very same room with my precious, strong, and giving Nannie and my 23 5th graders. What more can a girl ask for?

Thank you Nannie for being a bright light in my life. I love you!

Love,

Your Eldest Grandchild
